Great movieus interruptus (or "Don't you hate it when...") |

So I settle in the other night to watch an old classic which I had never seen: To Kill a Mockingbird. I was really enjoying it and was lost in the movie when all of a sudden it just stopped. It was right after a pivotal part of the film and needless to say I was aggravated. So I popped it out of my computer and moved over to the kids' computer. I found the chapter I was looking for and DVD Player "quit unexpectedly". Arrrgghhh! I went to the bedroom to watch it, but my daughter was taping some program on the vcr. Ended up on the DVD player in the living room and it wouldn't play theree, either. I just wanted to see the end of the film! Finally, I went back to my computer and jumped to two chapters later (the next chapter wouldn't play either). I missed a critical scene or two, but was able to deduce what happened by subsequent events.

I just had to vent, but I was left with a couple of thoughts:

• Always check the DVD for deep scratches before you decide to try to watch it...or be prepared for frustratrion.
• People don't seem to care about DVDs they don't own, so if it comes from the local library, expect the worst.
• You know dvd players are cheap when you realize you have one in just about every room in the house.

I just saw that Capital One ad with the pillagers that have to get new jobs for Christmas. I think those are really clever ads. I like the cab driver pillager that is using a cross bow to shoot the plastic lawn deer in someones Christmas display.

I also like the end where the narrator pillager tells the little kid that walks by, "I'm making a list," in that menacing tone. Too funny. Or maybe I just have a warped sense of humor, who knows.

I just noticed the addition of the alternate forum site as a link at the top of each page-YEA! The other way, having to go back to the Forum list to pick up the other page was a bit unhandy. This is a very nice addition.

Thanks again.

I just wasted over an hour and about $5 worth of gasoline going from store to store to find an item I though was way overpriced at the first place, and ended up saving....

....about $5.
So let's try this question on this forum. |

I cloned my kids' Tiger drive contents over to my computer so I can "test drive" it with my stuff. So now I have a partition with my working Panther Mail, Address Book, dock prefs, etc. and another partition with the working Tiger install from the kids' computer.

Can I move the contents of my Panther User folder over to the Tiger partition and effectively work with my preferences using Tiger? What exactly needs to come over and will it cause problems if I do? I won't really know if I'll have problems with Palm Desktop, or my bank account stuff or my Filemaker invoices until I work with them in a real Tiger environment. Or would I be better off just setting up Mail, Address Book, Dock, and other preferences from scratch on the Tiger partition?

Yes, I'm "cheating", but until (and unless) I know everything will work the way I need it to, I'm hesitant to drop $100+ on Tiger discs. This way I can try before I buy.

I love spotlight's features. It is instant on my Powerbook. Since upgrading to 10.4 on my desktop machine; it's a snail. I have reset RSS update to once a day and iDisk to once a day. How do I speed this up?
