POLL: Fear of dumping rarely used OS9 partition? - jimbrady - 05-16-2006 My TiBook has an OS9 partition that gets basically no use. I'm buying a bigger HDD for it and seriously pondering the banishment of Ol' Niner. Anyone dumped 9 and lived to regret it? I'll still have the Blue and White down in the Rec Room to fall back on... if I don't dump it off there as well. Only scenario I envision where I'd need the old war horse is if I somehow needed to access Outlook email that's 3+ years old. Re: POLL: Fear of dumping rarely used OS9 partition? - mrthuse - 05-16-2006 Don't you still have it on the install discs? If so, when you need it... Re: POLL: Fear of dumping rarely used OS9 partition? - jardster - 05-16-2006 dumped OS9 about 3 months ago on my Tibook and never looked back. I don't even have it on my G4 QS. No need, I can't remember the last time I even thought about running OS 9. Open up that HD space and get rid of it! Re: POLL: Fear of dumping rarely used OS9 partition? - rz - 05-16-2006 When Jaguar came out, I dumped OS 9. Haven't had the need to go back to it. Here's another option though. Create a disc image of your OS 9 partition, and mount that whenever you need it. Sure it takes up the same amount of space, but at least you can keep it as one partition rather than having a separate partition for OS 9. Re: POLL: Fear of dumping rarely used OS9 partition? - Paul F. - 05-16-2006 At home I was able to fit all my remaining Classic Apps and my Classic sytem folder on a DVD-R. Fortunately, I kept it, becuase I had some older Pagemaker documents that my version of InDesign wouldn't open directly... So I "restored" my Classic and Pagemaker 7 capability temporarily, updated the Pagemaker docs to V7, then they opened in InDesign. Then I dumped Classic again. Re: POLL: Fear of dumping rarely used OS9 partition? - Grateful11 - 05-16-2006 I still have on a small partition because my son still has a few games he runs on it. He found an emulator that allows him to run his Starcraft disc on OSX. Re: POLL: Fear of dumping rarely used OS9 partition? - jimbrady - 05-16-2006 The disc image is a good idea--is that bootable? Re: POLL: Fear of dumping rarely used OS9 partition? - mattkime - 05-16-2006 There is no reason to have a separate partition for OS 9. I like to keep OS 9 around just in case although I don't think I'd recommend others to. Re: POLL: Fear of dumping rarely used OS9 partition? - Paul F. - 05-16-2006 Mattkime; Many of us keep (or kept) OS 9 and OS 9 apps on a separate partition JUST for cleanliness sake.. For me, it helped me at a glace remind myself of what I was still using that WAS a classic app. Once my Classic partition was nearly empty, I dumped it, repartitioned, and haven't had any trouble since. (Since I have that DVD-R backup... just in case... Same thing at work.. I keep it all on a separate partition JUST for convenience sake so I don't mix native and classic apps in my Applications folder. Not necessary, just my own screwed up sense of tidyness. Re: POLL: Fear of dumping rarely used OS9 partition? - mattkime - 05-16-2006 >>Many of us keep (or kept) OS 9 and OS 9 apps on a separate partition JUST for cleanliness sake.. yeah, i realize that. my concern has been more with filling the drive. therefore its extremely inconvenient when you need a few more meg on one partition and have a few gig on another. |
