Wanted to take son to see AF1 land today, but Nooooo! - Grace62 - 02-17-2012 President will be landing at the Boeing plant in Everett in an hour or so to tour the 787 line and meet workers. No sitting President has visited our county in 20 years. Event is not open to the public, but school is out today so I was hoping to take my son over to see the President's plane at least. But all the surrounding highways have been shut down and you can't get anywhere near. Then he's off to his $20K a person lunch. Gosh I'd love to go, too busy, sorry. Oh well. Will watch on TeeVee. Re: Wanted to take son to see AF1 land today, but Nooooo! - mick e - 02-17-2012 Hope and change. Re: Wanted to take son to see AF1 land today, but Nooooo! - Ombligo - 02-17-2012 Haveing dealth with Presidential security on several occasions - I guarantee the President has no knowledge or input into what is open or closed. The locals likely closed the roadways, Boeing closed the tour, the Democrats set up the lunch (same as the GOP did when Bush was in office). The last person with any input into the Presidents plans is the President. Re: Wanted to take son to see AF1 land today, but Nooooo! - Grace62 - 02-17-2012 I'm not blaming the Pres in the slightest, none of it is surprising. We're watching the visit on television now. The cool thing is that the President's plane, a 747-200, was built at this factory. This is it's first trip back to its birthplace with the Prez inside. He is going to announce new funding sources for domestic manufacturers from the Export Import bank so that they can better compete with subsidized competitors like Airbus. Re: Wanted to take son to see AF1 land today, but Nooooo! - cbelt3 - 02-17-2012 This is not a political statement, it's just plain fact: If you had wanted to meet him, you would need to have gotten an 'in' through his re-election campaign or political party. Or been a donor or an organizer. And had to submit all your personal data a week or so in advance. Secret Service takes the security of their principal beyond seriously . Which is good.. the number of people and organizations who would happily murder him are staggering. Re: Wanted to take son to see AF1 land today, but Nooooo! - Grace62 - 02-17-2012 Yes, I know. I wasn't trying to have a cup of coffee with the guy, just be close enough to see the plane land, since it's happening only a couple of miles from my house. Turns out the Pres is traveling only by air today, so the roads will be open. Re: Wanted to take son to see AF1 land today, but Nooooo! - cbelt3 - 02-17-2012 Oh, and FWIW, if you're ever in the Dayton, Ohio area you can see (and walk through) a whole bunch of Air Force Ones at the Museum of the Air Force. Free admission, 7 days a week, 9AM to 5 PM. We walked the Boy Scouts through the plane where LBJ took his oath of office after JFK was shot. Wow.. And if you visit our fair city, we have the original AF1 on display at our Museum of Flight in Seattle. Re: Wanted to take son to see AF1 land today, but Nooooo! - cbelt3 - 02-17-2012 Very cool. One amazing plane was FDR's plane "Sacred Cow". With an elevator in the back so he could get in and out in his wheelchair without anyone seeing. http://www.nationalmuseum.af.mil/factsheets/factsheet.asp?id=566 If you're bringing scouts to West VA for the National Jamboree, this museum is a worthwhile detour. Of course for you, it's better to hop on one of Boeing's products... Re: Wanted to take son to see AF1 land today, but Nooooo! - Grace62 - 02-17-2012 We're looking at a Boundary Waters high adventure base trip for summer 2013, which will be somewhat spendy. I don't know if we'll have scouts do that Jamboree or not. |
