Reminder: California begins charging internet sales tax on Saturday - steve... - 09-14-2012
Amazon will start adding sales tax for orders shipped to CA residents on Saturday. Depending on where you live, the tax rate can vary from 7.25% to 9.75%.
Anyone know for sure if ALL internet sites will be adding the tax? I did a quick search but didn't find an answer.

I think it's only if they have a business presence in CA. With Amazon, it was debatable but CA considers "affiliates" to be a "business presence".

But I think they were avoiding that because then they would have to charge sales tax. But CA said affiliates count too, then there was a deal struck between the two. And I think Amz agreed if CA would hold off for a year.

Yes, and the deal is going to expire very soon. So, if they have to collect taxes in CA anyway, they can build their centers without any additional penalty.
It's probably important for them now that they are less cost competitive to B&M stores.
