Cleveland kidnap story = tabloid sensationalism - SteveG - 05-07-2013
This morning, I heard the BBC doing 28 minutes of coverage on the Cleveland kidnapping story. It's a blaring headliner around the world to people who don't even know where Cleveland is. (On the other hand, could you find Mumbai on a map?)
It's a perfect "Where the white woman went" trifecta. Have fun watching the exploitation. I hope this one fades fast. Then they can back to the tedious task of avoiding reporting actual news.

This story absolutely should be in the international news.
It's not only compelling but a lot can be learned from this.
I'm very glad to see it there.

Umm you DO know that they at least one of the women was not "white", right?
Certainly not Gina DeJesus.

Michelle Knight's story is a particularly sad one, there are details in this BBC article but no mention of her physical appearance:

The story does not involve Jews or Israel therefore it does not qualify as news by "Steve G." standards.

Of course. But the story is about loss and joyous rediscovery, and about the ability of the human spirit to endure and survive, and eventually triumph. The tabs will revel in the salacous tales (Torture dungeon !!), but the rest of us revel in the joy that these young women and their families feel at being reunited. And acknowledge that these young women will need lots and lots of care and love until they can put those years of torment behind them, or at least live successfully.

Three women are found and reunited with their families after 10 years of torture and sexual/mental abuse and Steve is unhappy that it is being reported? That's sick.

I notice that nobody here got worked up when thousands of kids were kidnapped and pressed into killing people as "child soldiers" in Africa.
You are being had. They are exploiting other people's misery to gain listeners and viewers.
