Evernote > Apple Notes - CJsNvrUrly - 07-04-2016

After the thread the other day, I opted to give it a try anyway. Nothing to lose but a little time and it's a four day weekend for me, so...
At first, it appeared I could only export the notes of one notebook at a time, but I finally figured out how to do all of them at once. The downside was that only the notes were exported. Once done, I had to create new Notebooks in Apple Notes and sort them accordingly. This wasn't entirely a bad thing, though. It gave me the opportunity to clean up.
Once done, I began to notice the differences in the notes. AN had minimal features compared to EN. No tags, no sharing, no dates, links, etc.
I wanted to highlight some text in a new note in AN, but bold was the best I could do.
The killer for me was that I couldn't SEARCH for a particular note in AN. I had to remember which notebook it was in and go find it. Nope nope nope.
And you can only put a note in one notebook at a time.
I sure don't want to pay for another service, so I guess I'll have to figure out which two devices to limit myself to for Evernote.

Re: Evernote, Apple Notes, Day One - JEBB - 07-04-2016

Has anyone thrown Day One into the comparison? I've been finding it quite useful.

I use Day One for journaling, but not for articles, photos, projects, recipes...

Simple Note?

I'll be trying it. Don't use Evernote enough to justify a monthly fee.

you might take a look at Awesome Note 2. it seems to do a lot of what you are looking for. tagging. search. font manipulation.

Awesome Note 2

I had Evernote Premium for a while when it came free with a WSJ online subscription, but when that ended I was happy to give up Evernote's bells and whistles in exchange for Apple Notes offline access.

I guess there's a lot of power user stuff in Evernote, but I wasn't using it, but I did discover how much Note activity I like to do on subways and airplanes!

Awesome Note 2

I took a look. It sounds like you can use it on your desktop via Evernote syncing, and use it on your iPhone and iPad via Evernote syncing.
Could this be a workaround to continue using Evernote on three devices? That's all I really want (without paying for what I was previously getting for free).

I believe BOTH Evernote and Apple Notes need Internet access in order to synch across devices, but I know I can access my Evernote (free basic) when I'm offline.

No, you cannot.

Notes offline with Evernote Free: yes and no.

Yes, in that it is technically possible, sometimes, if you've figured out this Favorite trick in advance:

No, in that I did not and in converting to Apple Notes have never looked back. One of undoubtedly many super power user features I did not stumble upon in my less-than-power-user pattern of usage.
