Because of fan noise. From all I've read/heard/seen, the noise I'm getting is considered normal for this model. Just chatted with Apple support, sent them a video, and they seemed to think it sounded normal.

For my needs and for $2k, I'm not particularly ready to deal with what, to me, is a significant tradeoff. I'm used to what is essentially silent computing with my M1 Mini, so for now, I'll go back to using that. This machine is a step up from the Mini for sure, and I hate to send it back. But I can wait for another 6-12 months and see what that brings.

Perhaps in a few months there will be an updated Mini that may fit the bill for something a bit beefier than what I've got now. Or maybe Apple releases a firmware update or something that silences Studio models that way. Either way, I don't want to be stuck with something that will get under my skin in the meantime.

Anybody want a nearly base model Studio (upgraded GPU)? Make me an offer I can't refuse, and skip the lines at Apple :-)

Bummer. But understandable.

Sounds like a M2 mini w/32 GB ram would be an ideal solution for u — since the current mini is working. Just a little more oomph but silent.

The M1 chip might be plenty for my workflow but I need the ram for application overhead . Would like 64 gb minimum.

Some of us remember paying $3.5K for G4 "Wind Tunnels".....

if you want real fan noise!

My MDD even got the hush kit and it was loud. Bot oddly enough, I found Delta fans (same brand as Apple use) with the same size, same power draw, the same or more airflow, and a lot quieter. No idea why Apple never sourced them.

I'm still confused why that model would make that noise. I can't imagine the same chip in the 16" MBP runs a fan all the time. Anyway, too bad it didn't work out for you.

You aren’t alone.

Especially since 16” MBP and Studio have identical performance.

With all the cooling — it should be able to outpace the mMBP. But nope.

My old Powermac G4 sounded like a jet winding up to do an aircraft carrier take off.

Move it away from you. Use long cables where needed.
