Dog question: Why does he do this? - kap - 07-28-2007 Ever since we have begun home-cooking for our lit' mutt terrier, he has also started to urinate immediately after his meal. The problem is he does it right where he eats even though we leave the door open for him to go outside. Any idea or suggestion is greatly appreciated. Re: Dog question: Why does he do this? - wurm - 07-28-2007 Reading only the subject line, my answer was going to be "Because he can." But it's a little less relevant after reading the entire post. Re: Dog question: Why does he do this? - Gutenberg - 07-28-2007 Take him to the vet and ask the vet to check him for a urinary tract infection. Re: Dog question: Why does he do this? - tenders - 07-28-2007 Uh....feed him outside first? Then figure out what the problem is, if there is one. Lucky dog. Can't say I've ever eaten anything so delicious it makes me pee immediately. Re: Dog question: Why does he do this? - Filliam H. Muffman - 07-28-2007 I suggest talking to your vet, it sounds like a minor medical problem to me. I would move his food bowl outside or put it on papers (or whatever you did to train him in the first place) in the short term. Re: Dog question: Why does he do this? - vicrock - 07-28-2007 Take him outside and "exercise" him before feeding? Re: Dog question: Why does he do this? - iaJim - 07-28-2007 Is he feeling that he is doing something that he shouldn't? If so, it could be a submissive behavior that he thinks is going to keep him from getting into trouble. Re: Dog question: Why does he do this? - blusubaru - 07-28-2007 It's because you have him dressed in a pink sweater. He's developed such a complex that he thinks his food is making fun of him. ![]() Re: Dog question: Why does he do this? - jimmy d - 07-28-2007 Knowing when your dog wants to go before he does it is at least half the battle to house training, and it sounds like you are already there. Do not expect him to go outside when he has to go at this point. You know when he has to go, so pick him up, put him outside where you want him to go and wait patiently until he does. If you keep up this regimen long enough, your dog will learn, and you will be rewarded. It worked for me and my dog! Re: Dog question: Why does he do this? - MacMagus - 07-28-2007 Dogs don't ordinarily pee where they eat. They've got instincts against that. My first guess is that he's got a food allergy since this seems to be linked to a change in diet. Can you put him back on his old food for awhile to see if he gets better? If the problem persists or if you see other symptoms, he may have a serious medical condition. Take him to the vet. |
