Nation's largest brewer confident about 2007 profit forecast; offsets higher costs with higher beer prices
Anheuser-Busch Cos. Inc. reaffirmed expectations of earnings per share growth between 7 and 10 percent this year, even as the cost of ingredients continues to climb, the nation's biggest brewer said Thursday.
Anheuser-Busch will continue to offset cost increases by raising beer prices. . .

Yeah, but who actually drinks anything from Anheuser-Busch? I've never seen anyone actually consume Budwieser. I thought that Bud was the type of beer that was consumed in the 70's before there were any good beers available. Why on earth would any drink that now?

Are you kidding or are you just hanging out in a cave in SoHo? A-B is the #1 brewery in the US with the #1 and #2 best selling beers in the world (that would be Bud and Bud light). I'm a Sam Adams man myself, and most of my friends prefer any drink w/ Chopin to any beer, but to deny the presence of the King of Beers and it's parent company is just either ignorant or delusional.
Also there were no good beers in the 70s? Maybe you weren't looking too hard b/c there were lots of German, Belgium, and Dutch imports back then.

Let me defend my colleague briefly by saying that, although imported and regional beers were 'available' in the 70's, they were not per se 'accessibile'. Your local supermarket did not have a 'designer beer section' like they do now.
Let me also defend Budweiser- it's still #1 because it is cheap and plentiful. Phony-ID bearing high school and college students all over the USA drink a lot of it.
Heck, the CEO of my Fortune 1000 company prefers Budweiser, and the man can afford to buy whatever the heck he wants. Of course, he also drives a 5 year old Buick and pumps his own gas.

Hops is also up greatly this year. That will cost premium beer drinkers as they use more of the aromatic than the American pilsners (which are all the mass markets beers)
