Anyone with caller ID on TV? - Mac1337 - 11-26-2008 Verizon, even with FiOS, cannot offer this service. Any other way to do it? Re: Anyone with caller ID on TV? - ztirffritz - 11-26-2008 My MythTV box has a softphone built in. I created an extension on my Asterisk PBX at home. When a call comes in it then pauses the video, and posts the caller ID on the screen. I can transfer the call to another extension, voicemail, or pick up the call. I don't have a speaker or mic connected to it so I usually just send to voicemail. Re: Anyone with caller ID on TV? - Gareth - 11-26-2008 I had a little box a long time ago that accepted a video signal and superimposed the caller ID over the video and then I connected its output to the TV. It was S-Video, though, and it broke eventually. Re: Anyone with caller ID on TV? - kj4btkljv - 11-26-2008 How about this stuff: http://www.avtechsolutions.com/he_caller_id.htm Jeff Re: Anyone with caller ID on TV? - raz - 11-26-2008 My Dish receiver does it Re: Anyone with caller ID on TV? - Mac1337 - 11-26-2008 kj4btkljv wrote: Thanks. Do they have to be so big! The last thing I need is another big ugly box. Re: Anyone with caller ID on TV? - macphanatic - 11-26-2008 Comcast offers it for their HD boxes. There is a set up within the cable box menu. In looking at the solutions at avtech, they are only good for analogue video connections. A major shortcoming in my opinion as I have nothing hooked up via analog any more. Re: Anyone with caller ID on TV? - rz - 11-26-2008 DirecTV has it with their HD DVR too, but it doesn't seem to do it all the time. We have talking Caller ID anyway, so we just listen for it. Get one of the avtech boxes, attach the phone cord, plug it in to one of the analog video ports on the digital TV. Then, when the phone rings, hit the PIP button on the remote. There's the phone number. Jeff Re: Anyone with caller ID on TV? - onthedownlow - 11-27-2008 I had it 10 years ago with my Destination XTV...even now it looks better (presentation) than options I've seen with built-in receivers from DirecTV or cable providers. |
