Caroline Kennedy to Seek Clinton’s Senate Seat

. . .Caroline Kennedy, the daughter of an American political dynasty, has decided to pursue the United States Senate seat being vacated by Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York, a person told of her decision said on Monday.

The decision came after a series of deeply personal and political conversations, in which Ms. Kennedy, whom friends describe as unflashy but determined, wrestled with whether to give up what has been a lifetime of avoiding the spotlight.

Well, political dynasties are all very well on the Democratic side, but let a Bush think about running for office... Whew !

Does she actually live in New York, unlike the woman she would theoretically suceeed who just moved there to campaign ?

Where do you get that from? I heard plenty of Democrats, including my mother, say that she found the idea of a 2nd Clinton in the White House unappealing for that very reason.

And the last I checked, the Bush family had successfully campaigned in various elections without anyone really complaining about a dynasty. It was W and W alone that queered the whole deal for his family when he proved totally unworthy of his position.

You could always Google and find out -- but I realize you were just looking for a way to make a dig at Clinton and did not, in fact, have any interest in knowing where Kennedy lives.

$tevie-

I'm glad to hear I wasn't the only one who was under the impression that Mrs. Clinton's Senate bid was rather gauche. Although feedback from various sources indicates that she was a decent senator.

Thanks for the reference to Caroline. On to Wikipedia. Hmm.

Ok, so she does actually live in NYC. On Park Ave. OK, so she's not a reverse carpetbagger like our future Secretary of State. That's good.

And she's actually practiced law with her JD. Also good. Sounds like she might make a good senator.

My Bush Dynasty reference related to the general pillorying (around here) of Jeb Bush for thinking about running for a Senate seat.

I had no problem with Hillary as my senator. She did much more for me me (upstate New York) than has Chuckie Schumer. Should Caroline Kennedy be selected by the governor, I would be happy to get similar treatment. I've lived through terms where Alfonse D'Amato believed New York State ended north of the Westchester County line. At least Schumer occasionally references us and acknowledges our existence now and then. Smile

IMO, I think Governor Paterson may choose her for old fashioned political purposes.

Who was that carpetbagger that moved to Arizona in '81 and then ran for office in '82 ?

Seems he bought a house in a district where he ran the same day the incumbent announced his retirement.

That's what I would call a magic carpetbagger

Well, you don't know what we can find
Why don't you come with me Mr. Cain
On a magic carpet ride
You don't know what we can see
Why don't you tell your dreams to me
The 2008 Republican Presidential nomination will set you free.

Where did your dynasty go
Where is the girl I used to know
How could you lose that happy glow
Oh, Caroline no

Who took that look away
I remember how you used to say
You'd never [enter politics,] but that's not true
Oh, Caroline you

Break my (conservative) heart
I want to go and cry
Its so sad to watch a Senate seat die
Oh, Caroline why

There's plenty of carpetbagging to go around, it's just that the Republicans are too busy looking for insults to notice unless it is a Clinton.

mick e thinks they need a rock star in order to avoid enticing Rudy911 Ghouliani's return from the dead.

Caroline is not that rock star.
