Apple store MacBook battery test - JJ - 08-01-2009

I took my MacBook in to have the battery replaced. I must have grabbed the wrong one because it showed up on the hardware test as having 465 cycles, so it was used up and not bad.

I have four white MacBooks, but I know the battery that came with my most recent refurb did die after only 7 months, so I need to find the one in my house that is actually bad (not used up).

The genius had an iPod loaded with a disk image which he used to boot the MacBook and test the battery.

I would really like to have that utility, it was pretty cool. Anyone know if it is available for download anywhere?

JJ

Not the same, but in Apple System Profiler (About this Mac>More info) you click on Power and it will tell you the cycle count and some general info on the Battery.

A program called Coconut Battery is also popular.

has it been updated for Intel macs? It works great on PPC, but last time I tried it on an Intel Mac, the capacity was correct, but age of battery and age of mac were way off

has it been updated for Intel macs?

It should be easy enough to check the site.

I don't think system profile or Coconut battery work once the battery is bad or used up.

Thanks folks.

On the battery front, what is the best source for battery replacements?

I notice that our hosts are not selling Macbook batteries (just a Newertech conditioner.) I seem to recall buying Powerbook batteries at OWC.

Larry?

Ease up!
He's using the OWC browser that only loads macsales and macresource.

I'm using Coconut Battery on my MBP, 2.5GHz C2D. I'm pecking this on my iPhone. If I were on my MBP I'd Google it for you and post a link. Sorry Sad

LOL!!! Yes, it should be easy enough, and it looks like it has been updated. But I wanted to point out that older version do not work properly on Intel Macs, after all, the original poster might have had an older version on his hard drive and it was worth mentioning the Intel compatibility issue.
