G5 iMac Hard Drive Size Limit? - punkindrublik - 04-22-2006 I have a 20" G5 Rev 2 iMac. Is there a size limit for the hard drive? Fry's has a Western Digital Caviar 500 gig 16 mb drive for $229 with no rebate. I search Apple support docs but couldn't find anything that specifically addressed the size limit. Thanks for the help! http://shop3.outpost.com/product/4812430?site=sa:Hard%20Drives%20Memory:Spot1 Re: G5 iMac Hard Drive Size Limit? - microchip13 - 04-22-2006 You shouldn't have a problem. Re: G5 iMac Hard Drive Size Limit? - punkindrublik - 04-22-2006 Thanks Chipster! Re: G5 iMac Hard Drive Size Limit? - Todd's keyboard - 04-22-2006 Have the same model of computer. (Well, 17 inch screen, instead of a 20.) Does this need a SATA drive to go in as a replacement? thanks, Todd's keyboard Re: G5 iMac Hard Drive Size Limit? - punkindrublik - 04-22-2006 Yes! Re: G5 iMac Hard Drive Size Limit? - jdc - 04-22-2006 no limit -- they could be custom ordered with a 500 gig drive Re: G5 iMac Hard Drive Size Limit? - Ken Sp. - 04-22-2006 That drive is supposed to be difficult to replace--unlike the previous iMac PATA/IDE Re: G5 iMac Hard Drive Size Limit? - Mr645 - 04-22-2006 SATA, Seagate just annouced a 750GB drive Re: G5 iMac Hard Drive Size Limit? Update! - punkindrublik - 04-22-2006 Got the drive. It's in an external case and the cloning process has begun. I've already swapped the drive once and it's not so difficult. I'll update once it's up and running but it'll be a few hours. I've got about 230 gigs to clone. After formatting it checks in at 465 gigs. That's a lot of gigs to lose to formatting. Does this seem excessive? Re: G5 iMac Hard Drive Size Limit? Update! - WHiiP - 04-22-2006 punkindrublik Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Got the drive. No, you actually lost it to Marketing People . . . blame them. They always find a way to tell you that sh*t smells like roses. Never does to me . . . It's all about 1024 not being the same as 1000. . . someone else will come along and give you the specifics . . . |
