I routinely get DVDs from the library that look as if someone taped them to the bottom of their shoes and shuffled across concrete. I don't see how you can "accidentally" cause as much damage as I've seen on some. If you want to build a shrine around 2 cents worth of plastic you are free to do so. Some people would rather polish their knob.
