I vote with Jamie, new structure of handling database in Outlook eliminates the biggest weakness of Entourage namely huge databases more subject to corruption as the size grows. Another side benefit of the new method of handling databases is backup programs such as TimeMachine and Retrospect in Entourage would view database with one new email as changed and backup entire new database each time. My nightly backups in Retrospect dropped from 3GB to about 500MB after installing Outlook. Not as obvious in Time Machine but imagine the same is going on there. Apple mail was has similar structure new email handled as separate files thus the average backup program only backs up the new email, while Entourage always required backing up entire database. I use Word, Excel and now Outlook and find the new effort is well done.

I've been using it for the past week. Outlook, Word and Exel all open much quicker than 2008 and I've yet to get a beach ball.

Office okay, Outlook NO.
Had a client buy it when she switched from Windows to Mac, she had the Apple store import all of her mail from Outlook on the PC into Outlook 2011 (against my advice).
Two days later she was calling me to switch to another email client, Outlook couldn't meet her demands (at least not yet).
Well, turns out the pst file somehow became corrupted when the Apple store imported it it into the Mac, nothing I tried would work to get the old one moved over to Apple Mail, couldn't export from Outlook 2011 into a format that another email client could import.
She finally remembered that she had a rather newish backup of the pst on a drive, she may lose a couple months of email, but gets to keep years and years of business email. Now sometime this weekend I get to go and try to move it over into Mail.
I was really hoping not to have to work this weekend, but my phone keeps ringing, guess that's a good thing though.

4GB RAM, 2.66 MBP. I've noticed the beachballing in Powerpoint too, which doesn't have an Endnote plug-in, so I doubt that's it.

Office 2011 was a nice upgrade - but I am not an outlook user.
Also, Endnote compatibility is not there yet, if that's important to you.
