... you can tell me to do something productive right now.

Want to do some yardwork for me?
If you lived in Oakland/Berkeley/San Leandro, I'd consider it.

I have stopped my car several times to warn adults who I've seen giving children mower rides.

When I was two I was run over by a mower when I ran out to get a ride. No one expected me to be outside, thus no one was watching for me. I ran behind the mower as it was backing up and was struck. I lost my right arm and shattered my shoulder blade.

Life turned out okay for me despite the loss, but it obviously could have been much different. So when I see an adult giving a child a ride, I make a point to stop and warn them of the danger.

Surprisingly I have never been told to mind my own business. Maybe the stump where my arm is suppose to be gets their attention.

And that's why you don't let kids ride on lawnmowers. (Sorry, I've been watching Arrested Development.)

Seriously, this is a tradition, almost, around here. My cousins husband was talking about it last week. Usually, it happens on level ground and it's usually clear of debris, but still. I wonder what the statistics are for death and injury. Maybe this will be the next in line for an awareness campaign.

Back in the day, you always saw kids in the back of pick up trucks.

.. and when enough of them ended up splashed all over the road, people stopped doing that, too.

Seat belt one gets to me. We brought ours up using infant car seats,
Booster seats and then just seatbelts. As they got older like 7&8 they
wouldn't even let us start moving the car until they had their seatbelt
on. So to the parents that claim they can't get their kids to wear one
I say fooey on you.
