Yep, Step 1. Wiping a cloth across the record, or using a "Discwasher" brush ain't the same. You can get a Spin Clean for $80, and that's a cheap machine but effective.

I kind of think the noticeable "quality" difference might be minimal.

That Presonus has a limitation of no better than 44kHz or 48kHz sample rate, so I'd agree with you. The Griffin is likely about as good overall, even though the Presonus is 24-bit.

A lot depends on the front end, too.

Friend of mine gave me a newly-remastered copy of "Aja" on LP a couple of years back... went and got my turntable repaired just so I could play it. That record is just glorious; you can hear instruments all over the place that aren't audible on the CD.
