Holding the camera away farther away from your body also increases the likelihood of you introducing shake.

G1 & G3 are still look pretty big to me.

Id be more interested in the something like the size of the GF3 or Sony NEX
These preferences will be personal choice, of course. For the extra 4 ounces and .6" of thickness the G3 gives you a quality viewfinder, articulating swivel screen, built-in flash, and a flash hotshoe vs. the GF3. For my needs, this is a no brainer. YMMV.

My interest was highly piqued by the NEX series and its larger APS-C sensor, but high price, few lenses, and reports of poor interface left me thinking "meh."

IMHO, even the crude 1st-gen EVF in the G1 is pretty acceptable. I'm pretty sure the G3 EVF is going to be great.

G3 3.29 x 4.54 x 1.84 / 11.84 oz
GF3 4.24 x 2.64 x 1.2 / 7.94 oz

The Olympus E-30 is a very nice camera with a wealth of NICE lens options that cost less because the stabilization is in the body.

I think you mean MICRO 4/3.

Well, there's that too, if you're going to be practical about it.

I just bought an Olympus PEN e-pl2 and the 14-150mm lens. I like it. A lot. The lower weight is wonderful.
