Ricoh has has some terrible ideas lately for cameras. I would be concerned if I used pentax.

My first 35mm film camera is a Ricoh Singlex TLS. Screw mount. It is a knock-off of a Pentax Spotmatic.

Should I be concerned about my Pentax film camera?

You mean the ones with the interchangeable sensor modules?

The consensus seems to be growing that Ricoh and Pentax are a much better fit than Hoya and Pentax. Ricoh is a bigger company than Hoya so maybe the R&D money will be there, and presumably will continue to let Pentax develop DSLRs along their current path, which is an excellent path.

How the Q fits in to this is unclear to me. I think it's a neat system, but too expensive. Evidently it's been under development for five years, waiting for a good enough sensor.

Dpreview's forums are too loaded with knee-jerking know-it-all-whiners who have no clue as to what they're talking about.

That's exactly why I don't read dp's forums. The site and navigation are too ugly for me, and then when you get to the comments, you're soon sorry you did. I read the reviews and I'm out.

Though to be fair, that's often the problem with most sites that have a forum or even a Comments section. THIS site is a notable exception, of course.

And yes, if you are a fan of the Pentax line and philosopy, you might have good cause for concern.

When one company takes over another's product line, it's a rare case when it continues unchanged or improved. There may be examples of those cases, but I think corporate mentality tends to treat them as *mere* acquisitions and not their pet projects.

As this gives Ricoh something they previously didn't have, maybe Pentax will carry on. I remember when Ricoh made what seemed to me like very competent film SLRs.

Here's hoping that Pentax will be ok.

This report gives a little idea of what a tough marketplace for cameras is and gives a little prespective on why Pentax may have been up for sale. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-04-15/sony-nikon-narrow-gap-to-canon-with-new-digital-camera-models.html I was a little surprised at how small Pentax's share was, but shouldn't have been given how dominate nikon, canon, samsung and sony are in most retail channels. My 2 cents. (hang in there Kodak! I loved my dc4800!)
