None of these are action flicks but for comedies, I second Beerfest, especially if you have not seen it before.
The Hangover (the first one) is very good, but most have seen it relatively recently in the last couple of years.

Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle
Monty Python's Life of Brian or Holy Grail

If you want a comedy and skin. Hilarious Asian MALE skin.
It's cool to have a "no brainer" movie playing in the background. Where people can enjoy the movie at pretty much any point. Coming and going. In and out of conversations.

John Carpenter's "The Thing" never disappoints. If they have never seen the director's cut of "Aliens," then that's always a satisfying re-watch. A little know Vietnam movie (probably the first one) called "The Boys of Company C" is "fun" to watch. "Platoon," and the original "Apocalypse Now" are always crowd pleasers too.

Straw Dogs is an excellent film. Susan George is, ahem, unforgettable.
A good black comedy/action film from the Pulp Fiction-type genre is Thursday (1998).
