Re: Great deal on a 5.1 HDMI receiver at Woot! - mrbigstuff - 09-30-2011 odd, I don't think I've seen a receiver that has plugs for one set of speakers and crimps for the others. before buying anything like this, though, I would really want to hear it or read a review of the sound quality. connections are nice but sound quality rules. Goto the product page , click the Specifications link on the left and then click the "video processing" link in the main gray-colored section. Says it has "HDMI Standby Through" which should be it. Consult its owner's manual. Thanks. But please stop, I can't really spend more money right now.... Note: in my quick search, Crutchfield's product guide seemed to say it did not do passthrough, but maybe they have an older model; also that was not mentioned as a feature that I could see in the manual. It does have "sync", so that it would turn on automatically with the TV. I can figure out any of this stuff myself, and my current set up is this tangled nest of cables connecting my mini on the other side of the wall. I would like to have a set up that my kids and partner could use, and that is much trickier. Getting them to switch the input on the TV is hard enough, expecting them to do that through a stereo seems a bit much. Re: Great deal on a 5.1 HDMI receiver at Woot! - decay - 09-30-2011 i noticed that about the speaker connections. plugs mixed with crimps... :/ Re: Great deal on a 5.1 HDMI receiver at Woot! - WHiiP - 09-30-2011 This is an OK deal. NOT a GREAT deal. Amazon reviews are 3 star out of 5 star. Amazon has this for $229, so it IS a deal, just not a great one, IMHO. But compared to a few years ago this is a GREAT deal. I picked up a refurb Onkyo 7.1 TX-SR605 receiver a while back for just under $300 with only 2 HDMI inputs and nearly all the same processing features which were pretty new advancements at the time. DTS-HD Master audio was a big deal then. I really wish I had another 1 or 2 HDMI inputs right now since I have the FiOS box, a Blu-Ray player and the AppleTV 2 all hooked up.
