Re: Is the iPhone Better Than Android? - RAMd®d - 10-05-2011 Android phones use the Android OS and its implementation varies among the many manufactures of Android phones. Not a plus, but if you find the perfect fit, great. Other phones on other platforms have had some features long before the iPhone got them. But for me, Apple's GUI makes those features easier to use, and is often a much better implementation. Apple hardware with Apple software is about user experience. Get the tech out of the way so a smart phone is as easy to use as a "stupid" phone while doing far more. Phones, OSs, and people aren't all the same, so "better" is highly subjective. I vote iPhone because of the graceful blend of style and substance, its consistency, and the User Interface. I'll order the 4S as soon as Apple allows. There was one time in my life that money was more important than time, but not anymore. I can always hustle for more money but having things misbehave or cause frustration is not worth it for me any more. One in-law is always touting the superiority of things that are less money (Android phones, Linux, cheap laptops) but I think he spends a LOT more time keeping them stable than I would be comfortable with. I will pay the Apple "premium" to have it just work. Re: Is the iPhone Better Than Android? - Grateful11 - 10-05-2011 john dough wrote: :agree: I second that as well. Re: Is the iPhone Better Than Android? - pinkoos - 10-05-2011 Coming from a long time Android user who is ready to jump ship to iOS, I'll say iOS tied to Apple's hardware is better than Android tied to x number of hardware manufacturers. Both have their pros and cons, but having used iOS a lot on our iPad, I've got to say that iOS 5 brings a lot of the "pros" that Android had to iOS and on a much better hardware platform. Re: Is the iPhone Better Than Android? - volcs0 - 10-05-2011 Our family uses both. The kids use iPod touches and iPhones - they are really simple, easy to use, have better games (IMO), and are pretty seamless when it comes to sync'ing music, photos, etc. You just plug it in, iTunes takes over and does the rest. My wife and I have high-end Android devices (HTC G2). We are both tied to Google mail, calendar, docs, etc., which integrates seamlessly with the Android OS, as you would expect. Google maps and google navigation have obviated our need for any other GPS. When I plug my phone in, I just want to be able to drag music, photos, and videos right to the phone without dealing with iTunes. If I want to plug my phone in at work, drag a few pictures and music off, I don't want iTunes telling me I'm already sync'd with another computer, etc., etc. For me, I like the ability to personalize and customize everything. Just this morning, I wanted to tie a specific button on the phone to immediately launch a text message to my wife. Easy. I wanted to tie a gesture on the lock screen to bring up the dialer... easy. I've yet to see a compelling feature on the iPhone that made me want to jump back (I used an iPhone 2 for over a year before swtiching). As far as voice recognition, I've been using Vlingo for a few months. I don't k now if it will rank Greek restaurants from Yelp, but if I say, "Call home" or "Text Julie, I'll be home in five minutes," or "Navigate to Navy Pier," it just does it - and it has a great car hands-free mode that reads texts, etc. So, it all comes down to how much you buy into the Apple Lifestyle. I've been an Apple user since 1982, so I obviously buy into a lot of it. My first smartpad was a Newton 110. We own almost every generation of iPod so far. So, I get it. We have several Macs (and one hackintosh) scattered about the place. But for the busy lifestyle for me and my wife, we just have an easier time on the Android platform. Your mileage may vary. Re: Is the iPhone Better Than Android? - decay - 10-05-2011 I've read gushing reviews from Android OS users; most of them hate Apple and will never buy an Apple device, so they are biased right out of the gate. (Some might say in the same way that we Mac users are.) market share news, with some interesting opinions & insights: http://www.twice.com/article/474784-Analysts_Apple_Will_Increase_Smartphone_Share.php an earlier comparison of HTC EVO 4G vs iPhone 4 from July 2010: http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9179481/Real_world_testing_iPhone_4_vs._HTC_EVO_4G this is a review from an Apple-hater: I spent several days reading & reading about how to root or unlock the phone before I took the dive. I bought the phone a week ago and rooted it 7 days in! Rooting is equivalent to jailbreaking the iPhone, but you can do so much more even before you root the phone than you can on the iPhone. You're not restricted to their software & market apps. Pros: - huge screen, HUGE! It looks weird now to look at other phones - 4G (if you live in an area w/it. Dallas does) - plenty of android apps now, many that work with iPhones - open source, linux based OS - standard usb cable to charge, so it works with these universal USB charger dealies i already had. means i dont have to buy a separate car charger. - it will record HD videos & has an HDMI port to plug into your TV - the internet even w/o 4G is pretty fast - rooting it has all these other options that are available like a FREE app to wifi tether to your cell phone (using it now connect my laptop to the internet) where the Sprint wants $30 A MONTH to use the similar functionality Cons: - none thus far for me - some issues others are reporting are the screens are lifting up - battery drains fast, but many of the hacks optimize for battery usage, there are a ton of apps that run in the background, plus bluetooth, wifi, 4G/3G radios running too all drain, but you can turn all that off unless you need it. I just carry my USB cable with me here's a speed test screen shot from his EVO 4G: ![]() Re: Is the iPhone Better Than Android? - decay - 10-05-2011 video comparison: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ULv-0xcciFE Re: Is the iPhone Better Than Android? - Wags - 10-05-2011 Rate plans? That's what has always pushed me towards Android. Currently paying $60/month for unlimited talk, roaming, text, and data - 4G. My newest HTC has HD video (but the sound really sucks) very nice camera on both sides, tons of stuff I never use or haven't tried yet, does video calls, tethering capabilities (extra cost for this). The feature thats a deal breaker for me is Navigation. It just works. Android voice recognition software has been really good for a couple years. Battery life, compared to my iTouch, much better on the HTC. Everything else, like streaming movies, etc., that's what my iPad is for. Touch-and-hold. A magnifying glass pops up. Slide along until the cursor is where you want it. Can't miss.
