Paul, open the PDF you sent them and go to File > Properties > Font tab and check to make sure that it says "(Embedded Subset)" next to each font name. If there are any that don't say that, then they were not embedded.
Maybe a silly question, but you're doing this on a Mac, right? I ask because some Windows apps will not embed certain fonts due to licensing issues.

I will check that as part of generating a new PDF to send them for a new proof.

Sadly, just to make me feel old, some of the younger teachers I work with are too young to remember mimeograph liquid!

Paul, what setting did you use to export to PDF from InDesign?? Was it one of the defaults, or was it a custom setting?
