Re: You all knew this was coming: armed troops to Central Africa - swampy - 10-15-2011 Our involvement in Vietnam started with less than 100 advisors to the South Vietnamese. Look what that got us. Do you know the history of bloodshed in Congo going back to the 60s? "On 17 January 1961, Katangan forces and Belgian paratroops – supported by the United States' and Belgium's intent on copper and diamond mines in Katanga and South Kasai – kidnapped and executed Patrice Lumumba." Aren't you the least bothered that there was zero debate about putting American boots on the ground there? They are going in with the express purpose of getting into an insurgency fight. And do you know how much resources it takes to support 100 armed troops on the ground half way around the world? Re: You all knew this was coming: armed troops to Central Africa - rjmacs - 10-15-2011 What is it, really, with the 'armed troops' language? Troops are armed. Disarmed troops are either non-deployed or prisoners of war. Re: You all knew this was coming: armed troops to Central Africa - Mac1337 - 10-15-2011 Is that your entire problem with this post or are you trying to avoid a debate? Story says "combat troops". There must be noncombat troops too. Write to AP and tell them there are no such things as noncombat troops. It is laughable that yesterdays sissies like you have turned into modern day Rambos. Sorry, pal but you are a better fit in Zuccotti Park mixing it up under blue tarps. Re: You all knew this was coming: armed troops to Central Africa - OWC Jamie - 10-15-2011 They're there for political gain and little more. The LRA is fractured and practically disbanded. Someone will be able to claim a victory and another terrorist leader taken out before elections in 2012. Little more than contrived bullshit. Re: You all knew this was coming: armed troops to Central Africa - Carnos Jax - 10-16-2011 It's hard not to be cynical/frustrated about the situation. I do wonder we'll wake up. billb wrote: Africa has suffered colonization resistance, apartheid and civil wars. It's about time we did a little bit more than try to help from a safe political distance. Very well said Bill... This is what people like you tell yourselves when your own military policies were utter failures. |
