Re: How to rip off student loans - August West - 10-23-2011 This might be a really good time to mention our one rule when hiring: If a candidate submits a resume and lists an online for-profit education school as their education (ours included), it is immediately thrown out. Let's just say we know our product. We know your product too, all resumes that list these institutions for education go directly to the do not interview pile. I feel a little sorry sometimes because there are so many vets who use their new GI bill for this, but then I think about having this level of education in my workforce. Re: How to rip off student loans - Surfrider - 10-23-2011 ...and the TV ads just keep on coming!!!!! It's one of the REALLY big scams. I'd like to see that tested if you sat down in an admissions office and pulled out $25,000 in cash. Re: How to rip off student loans - swampy - 10-23-2011 It's the "evryone goes to college" syndrome whether you have the academic ability or not. Here's to the vocational schools that teach the trades. We will always need plumbers, mechanics, dry wallets, truck drivers and the like. And if it's income you want I just got the bill from my plumber for replaceing my water heater...$18 an hour and I'm assuming that's cheap compared to what they probably charge in urban areas. Once we break those unions, you'll be able to get your water heater fixed for minimum wage (less if we repeal those job-killing laws), with all the parts imported from developing countries. Won't that be great? Re: How to rip off student loans - RgrF - 10-23-2011 Swampy has the mentality that it's not the crooked banks, it's the stupid borrowers. Re: How to rip off student loans - Acer - 10-23-2011 Nothing wrong with encouraging people to seek careers in practical trades. We need them as much as we need engineers and doctors. Skilled trade unions (e.g., carpentry, plumping) provide the training via their own programs and apprenticeships. When they finish with you, you know your stuff. The for-profit model, on the other hand, looks like it's producing crap. Re: How to rip off student loans - Filliam H. Won't that be great? That is a fraking bargain. My Mom paid about $60/hr to have a toilet float replaced when I was out of town for a week. She can't find any kids in her neighborhood to mow her lawn for under $12/hr. They all seem to have at two or three activities per day after school and do not have the time. Re: How to rip off student loans - Kiva - 10-24-2011 These online universities are also pros at cashing in on vets and their GI bills. Freaking amazing. http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/educating-sergeant-pantzke/ Re: How to rip off student loans - kj - 10-24-2011 People are just now noticing this? I'm not sure the answer is to just let the taxpayer pay the debt (bankruptcy, etc.), unless we all get to have our "stupid tax" paid off. But somebody sure as heck should go after these "schools". And for that matter, whoever made the loans available for this purpose. 75k to be a Massage Therapist? These people will never pay back their loans. So we pay. kj. |
