I'll probably replace the toilet regardless, so the post was more about the (what the h*** IS it called) Tonto brand than saving water as nearly every one out there now is a water saver, and a couple gallons a month difference in water usage is like pi$$ing in the ocean if I may be allowed to mix metaphors.

not exactly flush with ideas, people.
Yeah, brick in a ziploc baggie, or a 1 qt jar. Some floats/valves are adjustable, which will achieve the same thing.

Compared to other brands Toto toilets have a wider pipe to empty the tank so the water flows faster and washes away the crap better.

there's no reason for you to get a new toilet unless you're trying to satisfy a severe case of toilet envy.

Solved. I went to Target and got a genuine Chinese flapper dingus and, upon taking off the old one, found it crudded up where it should have been keeping a tight seal. Maybe I could have cleaned and reused it, but the new one is a very attractive yellow hue and I couldn't resist changing it. I'm sure a guest will lift the tank top and gaze down into the tank, see that bright yellow flapper thing and exclaim (something or other). Who knows, maybe I'll get lucky some evening. Or not.
And maybe the wall can go without that coat of paint for another few years…

You mention your Cadet Toilet. A few months ago we installed an American Standard Cadet 3 1.26 gal per flush and cannot believe how little water it uses and completely flushes everything EVERY TIME. We love it (if that's possible with a toilet). $189 at Home Depot. I agree with others If yours is working fine why waste money. My old one had a small crack so needed replacement.

Just think of the money you'll save on 5 square feet of paint.
If there's just one person in the house you can flush the toilet once a week.
