You make it sound like they planned on the price drop the day after you ordered the item.

How did you get "burned?"

Because their stated policy says a refund for the difference won't happen. And because I have some responsibility to make smart recommendations when it's someone else's money.
You did make a smart recommendation. You got the best price at the time. Prices always vary. If the price went up $30, would you expect Amazon to bill you the $30 or would you consider yourself lucky to get in before the price increase?

Hey---I'd like to think I don't come off as THAT paranoid Smile What I meant was, they know the drop was $30, an amount likely to annoy but perhaps not enough to raise a lot of ire? << scientific analysis

Maybe, but I view it as Amazon lowering their price when they can. To be perfectly honest, I love Amazon. Preprinted labels to return items and they pay for the return if it is their fault in any way. One time I screwed up returning an item by leaving something out and they paid for both labels. Interestingly, when I called Amazon about forgetting to include the item, the customer rep misunderstood me and thought that they had somehow forgotten to include the item. He immediately apologized and was in the process of sending me another item until I corrected him. So my opinion of Amazon isn't unbiased.

I'll call and ask about a lower price match from an online vendor but if they refuse, I don't get worked up about it.

It does help, thanks.

So, you called them, right? Was it a hassle to get through?

I emailed them explaining the situation briefly and asked how we can "make things right" but didn't mention the item (a camera) and they don't know the buyer (my dad, so different Amazon username).

If they inquire some more I can proceed that way and hand over the info to my dad. If they return a standard "no" email I'll just have my dad call them and see what happens.

Since I'd recommended to my dad both the camera and the seller (Amazon.com, although I *think* it was fulfilled by a 3rd party vendor, which might complicate things?) --- I'd like to get my ducks in a row before letting him know he overpaid.

Yes, I called. I always call. Emailing them always leads to more delays for me. Call them and talk to someone. I also like the suggestion to mention the item arrived to late in case they won't pay for shipping when you first talk to them.

If this kind of thing means so much to you, why don't you find a retailer whose policy accommodates post-order price matching? What a lot of angst about an item you apparently thought was priced just fine when you bought it.

That is just wrong and taking unfair advantage of a generous return policy.

Price drops after I buy something is one thing I don't think about and worry about.

Agreed.

Amazon must not check their delivery records very closely, because everything shipped by Amazon proper (not storefront vendors) has Delivery Confirmation.

Amazon should know how late any item arrives.
