I once had an OOL, but at that time, FiOS, I didn't hook up my HTC to my SPL, but hooked it up to my NSFL instead (BTW, I had a SNAFU with my OPL) but it worked for a while, but that's because my SO helped and her ISP uses ALOSA too.

The current (5th gen) Airport Extremes are widely reported to have exceptional range and coverage, and if needed extending with an Express is really easy. They've been at bestbuy.com for $99 refurb lately, which is pretty reasonable when compared to other higher-end routers, though the linksys e3000 is also high end and can be had for $45.

Don't think the dual band router would make much difference to me as the HTC prolly only has a 2.4 WiFi radio. Don't know if the ApTV2 has both, or the Roku 2.
I need more 2.4 jam.
Maybe try a little tinfoil and card board "Windsurfer" or beer can antenna.
