However, if the rich keep getting richer and the middle class continues to shrink, what do you think will happen? It's a house of cards. Look at your own profession. Teachers' income and benefits have not kept up and as result the very people like you who once chose to teach look elsewhere. Those that do choose to follow in your footsteps have great difficulty attaining the same lifestyle you enjoyed years ago. With that comes less commerce as they don't have money to spend on anything aside from the basics. What you are failing to see is that the very people you are protecting, the super rich individuals and corporations, practically own this country and do not care about you. You're essentially the slave who thanks master for the cup of gruel while evangelizing how good they are. There is most certainly a need for a more level playing field. Where's your outrage at giving wall street a 3 trillion dollar bailout? Where's your outrage at the incestuous relationship that exists between the FDA and pharma? You don't mind that your tax money goes into those deep pockets instead of the teacher next door? Or the corner business that can't get a loan at a reasonable interest rate? Re: Another Joe The Plumber Moment? - mick e - 07-17-2012 It's much easier to attack out of context quotes from the Black President. Re: Another Joe The Plumber Moment? - swampy - 07-17-2012 The middle class isn't shrinking because the rich are getting richer. The middle class is shrinking BECAUSE THERE ARE NO JOBS! It's not the job of a rich man to worry about MY welfare. Why do you liberals feel compelled to control eveybody's dollar? I'm glad the rich man is rich. It is the American dream. Everybody would like to be rich, but that is not reality, Pam. That rich CEO signs the front of the check. You, me, the government signs the back of it. Everybody needs the rich, yet you would kill the geese that are laying golden eggs. How stupid. Yes, there is fraud and corruption on Wall Street, big corporations and government, but who allows it to exist? The System (Congress, the SecEt al) who are supposed to be the over seers, don't hold the crooks accountable. Bailouts should never happen, banks, wall street, GM, Solyndra. I truly believe that we would be well on the way to economic recovery if the powers that be had just stayed out of the crisis. Yes, there would be a lot of hurting going on, but like an addict, it has to hit rock bottom before it can get better. This administration keeps propping up failure and prolonging the agony. Americans are strong. We have proven that time and time again. The best have always stepped forward and worked to make things better. You want warm and fuzzy. I'm calling for some hard love. Re: Another Joe The Plumber Moment? - Lemon Drop - 07-17-2012 swampy, As I mentioned in an earlier thread, our sort-of-socialist neighbors to the north are now richer than we are. Why? Because they REGULATED THEIR BANKS. And thereby avoided the catastrophe that was 2008 in the United States, and the subsequent deep recession and real estate crash. We don't need less government involvement with Wall Street, we need a lot more. The role of government is to ensure that while they are in the process of making money, businesses don't destroy our entire economy. Government and business are partners in our society, not enemies. Making government the enemy, which seems to be the current Republican mantra (ironically of Republicans IN that government,) is the exact opposite of what we need. What we're left with in the Wall Street/multi-national corporations do not meet those criteria or seem to share those values at all. Re: Another Joe The Plumber Moment? - Pam - 07-17-2012 swampy wrote: The rich are getting richer and yes, jobs are a problem. And I agree it's not the job of the wealthy to worry about my well being. However your second and third paragraphs are exactly why the rich got richer and why there is a loss of jobs. No, I don't want the rich to open their pocketbooks and give handouts. I do want the playing field leveled. When you hear "share" that is what people are talking about. You do realize you are proposing regulation which is what Republicans have been stridently against. Those entities which should be facing criminal charges are the very entities that the GOP protect. Re: Another Joe The Plumber Moment? - john dough - 07-17-2012 Funny that there was no Swampy outrage when we were spending an unbudgeted $1-2 billion a day in Iraq and all of those no-bid contracts were freely handed out to the friends of the administration. The same people screaming to high heaven about everything that Obama has done/does/will do are the same that were dead silent (or worse, defending Bush's activities) in the ramp up to where we are now. Re: Another Joe The Plumber Moment? - mick e - 07-17-2012 swampy is simply on marching orders. It is the FOXNews obfuscation meme of the day. http://2012.talkingpointsmemo.com/2012/07/obama-romney-business-you-didnt-built.php |
