Re: Home from the hospital - PeterB - 08-17-2012 Just catching up on your posts... Glad to hear he's (mostly) out of the woods at this point, and that he and you can hopefully get some much-needed R&R. Re: Home from the hospital - sekker - 08-17-2012 Yay! Get some rest. Glad your hubby is on the mend. Re: Home from the hospital - bazookaman - 08-17-2012 woohoo! Re: Home from the hospital - wowzer - 08-17-2012 Good to hear. Did they ever sort out what his diagnosis was? Renal stone or lumbar disc? I'm hoping it is the former, as that is easily managed. Lower back pain is notoriously difficult to treat. Re: Home from the hospital - Gutenberg - 08-17-2012 Just saw this whole thing. Thoughts your way--get well soon and get some sleep. Re: Home from the hospital - rgG - 08-17-2012 wowzer wrote: There is something, a mass of some sort, near or on his left kidney that they think is where the bleeding originated. They spotted this 'mass' from the original CT scan. Because he was on Coumadin, the bleeding got out of control and the blood pooling in the muscles around his kidney is what they think caused the pain. Anyway, because of all the blood in the general area, they couldn't get a good look at this 'mass' on the CT they did in the ER, and they didn't want to do a contrast CT because they were afraid his kidney might not be able to flush the dye out right now. They were going to do an MRI instead, but Frank has two frozen shoulders, so he could not hold his arms above his head to get into the machine. So, now that he is stable, we will go in for a contrast CT scan in about two weeks, when the swelling has gone down, and they will hopefully be able to see exactly what and where this 'mass' is. Most likely, they will go in and remove the 'mass' but right now we don't know if this will mean taking out a kidney or just the mass. It all depends on where it actually is. Since he has been consistently in sinus rhythm, they have taken him off Coumadin, until any surgery has been done. He may be off Coumadin in the future, but that will be determined later. He is feeling better, but is still tired and luckily has been able to get some rest here at home. He is walking better, but his sciatic nerve is bothering him on that side. It will take some time to get him somewhat back to full strength. Re: Home from the hospital - dmann - 08-17-2012 Ugh. I'm sorry there isn't a quick resolution for you. I know how hard the "sit and wait" approach is. We're here for you and continuing to send good thoughts your way. DM |
