It doesn't matter what it means really. As long as it does what they need it to do. 3G allows me to stream music from Google Play and watch YouTube videos. I hot-spot my MBP to it all the time. 4G is faster but not noticeable unless the stream stalls. The most frustrating thing is if there is no data connection at all to speak of.

LTE to me sounds like "Lite." Which probably is appropriate based upon how much carriers are looking to limit or throttle data plans.

Apple doesn't care because it knows people will buy it's crap. I know I do.

Amazon is being very aggressive.

They seriously are. The specs looks nice, and, if these devices are any good, their pricing is quite the warning shot FIREd across Apple's bow. I'd consider buying one of these before an iPod touch, for sure.

a Gizmodo review complained it was a bit laggy and not as responsive as the Nexus 7 or the iPad.

Will the term "LTE" will never connect with consumers?

Any product that has a bunch of letters, instead of meaningful words, after the name, is just another product with some letters added on, and is indistinguishable from hundreds of other unmemorable products with unnecessary letters associated with it. People are busy, and don't care to decode them.

On the other hand, if they're trying to promote a course in "bad branding techniques 101", it's a good example!

You lost me. The iPad pages on Apple's own site mentions LTE all over the place. The actual iPad model is called iPad WiFi + Cellular. That's any better than Kindle Fire HD LTE?

So true, but the Amazon data plan is a pretty good deal compared to the average AT&T or Verizon data option.

I dunno, has the kindle fire really found a market besides curious geeks?

Huh? The geek market is not being courted by Amazon, not with their Kindle lineup anyway.

It would be nice but I'm not holding my breath unless Apple gets it's own network

You think data prices will go down with an Apple owned carrier. I find that hard to believe.

Very excited about the new Kindles. Alas, the Target open box iPad deal was too hard to pass up. So no Kindles for me, not in the near future. Still have my E Ink Nook Simple Touch and Nook Tablet as well. I'm all tableted/eReadered out for the moment.

An inexpensive LTE plan is appealing, but I already have a mobile data plan that isn't tied to a single device.

While I won't be making the Kindle leap just yet, I love the competitiveness of the offerings.
