Yep: don't want to spoil vital appearance with nasty, ugly functionality.

Apple used to be all about merging of form and function. That was part of their success. The iPod was a triumph of the merger of form and function. There were other mp3 players out there, but Apple, designing logical functionality in a very chic form, had a hit on their hands. But now they are now form over function. Bad idea. People want logical functionality, take that away and the door opens to others.

Sam3, I agree completely. They are going down the wrong road, and I think they've gone too far to turn back.

I say bring back CRTs. Who cares about how deep they are?

The one thing I loved about CRT's, was that they were scalable when it comes to resolution. If you use an LCD monitor at anything besides it's native resolution, it looks cruddy.

Edit: Modern CRT's are actually not much worse than LCD's when it comes to energy consumption. For an individual user, there's very little difference. It only matters when you look at energy consumption for millions of displays.
