Re: Is anyone looking for an entry level turntable? - deckeda - 11-16-2012 In the context of serious stereo components, $350 is a very inexpensive turntable of the sort *everyone* was once buying. Consider a new Dual turntable purchased for about $100 in 1980. Guess how much that is in today's dollars? The difference today is that the barriers to entry have lowered along with quality, so "$100" remains the expected norm but yeah the ION and similar machines mostly just reinforce vinyl's downsides, not the potential. And $100 off a $450 deck is a rare bargain. I have a Dual 1246 that runs OK I'll sell to anyone here for $50 but you need to by a cartridge. It's not in perfect shape but it makes music and its tonearm would shame the ION's. Re: Is anyone looking for an entry level turntable? - Surfrider - 11-16-2012 Anyone know a good Dual repair site/service? Re: Is anyone looking for an entry level turntable? - Grateful11 - 11-16-2012 I still want to refurb. my $25 Salvation Army find Pioneer PL530. When I get my little shed setup maybe I'll finally be able to tackle it. At least one of their members repairs old Duals; can't recall if one of them is at one of those links? Sickness, geekery and double-blindness indeed. Anything else high end you care to disparage? Expensive cameras, wine, clothing, housing, vacations, bicycles, cars perhaps? The world is your playground. I'll make you a deal. For my part I'll refrain from posting anything in the numerous threads regarding the promotion of Amazon MP3s and other non-engaging, lackluster, musical-background file formats.
