Various places...
We were in Portland, Eugene, and Santa Clara. Stayed at a little place called Mission Inn in Santa Clara, walking distance from the U. I would call it a very good value since we weren't there for the lodgings. Highly adequate.

welcome back - sounds like a fun trip; I've got to make my way to Portland someday - for some reason, more than a few of my friends & relatives have moved there over the years...

Heard there was a sign at the state border, something like Californians Go Home! or something like that or maybe that was Washington.

How was the weather?
Did you take the train?
What did you do in Portland?

Delightfully sunny, except for about an hour driving through the Mt. Shasta area in a downpour.
No, we drove. over 1,600 miles, 6 campus visits. Son is a new driver but he covered about 10 hours of it.
Visited U of Portland and Lewis and Clark College, neither of which made good impressions. Stayed with friends in Lake Oswego. We've spent a lot of time in Portland, my Mom has a house there. I'm a fan of the Japanese and rose gardens in particular, love the public transport too. Otherwise since we live just near Seattle, Portland is kind of more of the same. (though I love it, great city. )

Getting a glimmer of emptier nest feelings yet? Smile

Yes, this is my youngest. On to a new phase ...

I thought I recalled you saying he was your youngest son, so I thought you might be coming to the "empty nest" phase. Sorry about using the cliche, but it does sum up pretty well the feeling so many of us have when our kids end up moving on with their lives just like we hoped when they were little ones. Kinda bittersweet.
