There were thousands and thousands of children kidnapped over a number of years and forced to murder people. Just gets a peep here. I guess they weren't white or female enough. Re: Cleveland kidnap story = tabloid sensationalism - Lemon Drop - 05-07-2013 I think you missed my point Steve. The Joseph Kuny story was more media hype than reality. Re: Cleveland kidnap story = tabloid sensationalism - Black - 05-07-2013 You guys remember the story of the two boys found being "kept" by some man in Missouri? Similar in a lot of ways, but I guess keeping female sex slaves is more interesting to the world population than keeping teen boys. We're so far removed and so insulated from that kind of misery, plus there's no money to be made. Let's face it, Africans suffering is not "news" and won't garner the interest of America. I don't have a problem with the Cleveland story in the news. Everyone has to make a living. Re: Cleveland kidnap story = tabloid sensationalism - $tevie - 05-08-2013 It's got all the makings of a ratings winner, but it doesn't mean it's not interesting. I'm the first one to complain about local murders going national but this isn't a murder, it's a bizarre crime coupled with a more-or-less happy ending. It's a like a Venn diagram where you have several factors overlapping and the center part is News Headlines. Re: Cleveland kidnap story = tabloid sensationalism - RgrF - 05-08-2013 If it makes it to PBS Newshour, does that sanctify it? Has Al Jazeera managed to avoid the story what does NKK News say about it? |
