Don't ruin the kid's life over an ill considered angry remark. I'm with Roger--it would not have gone this far if the junior's mother were a banker, say, or a secretary instead of the assistant superintendent of schools.

the kid has missed 13 days of school already because of this, and might be kicked out for the rest of the year which would include prom and graduation, so yeah, I'm just curious about what's really going on here
the article reflects only the point of view of the student and her attorney, in fact it's kind of the perfect pre-trial press release, the district can't comment on anything about the student or the situation and the other student isn't commenting publicly either.
so - it'll be interesting.
I find Ashley's statement that she didn't know the student she was talking about was black to be a bit much, and the picture she tweeted if directed at a black classmate is pretty bad. Expulsion bad?
I don't get what happened to make the 5 day suspension not enough, I'm curious to know.
the bit about parents needing to teach social media responsibility is pretty compelling, it's tough for us because we don't know enough about it and don't use it the way they do (for the most part.)
They'll probably do better with their own kids in that regard.
I just remind my sons that whatever they post publicly (and it's mostly all public) better be something they don't mind me, the police, their teachers and future bosses and mothers in law reading.

It's encouraging to see Grace willing to moderate her position, what was disappointing was to see her initial knee-jerk reaction supporting the authority position in this case.

I have not supported the "authority" position Roger, if you mean I think she should be expelled. I said I was withholding judgement until more info is known. I also said I thought the original punishment, a five day suspension, fit the crime.
You must be imagining that words are on the page which simply are not.

Unlike you, I'm not entirely sure the suspension was in order either. Seems like the opportunity to resolve this without confrontation was never employed.

I agree that an opportunity for both to learn from this seems to have been sidestepped. Apologies if I'm too tired to figure out how that makes me superior to Grace.
