Re: Eleven year old saves life with gun - OWC Jamie - 02-28-2014 The story ran days and days earlier local news "TWISP, Wash. (AP) -- An 11-year-old girl shot a cougar that was following her 14-year-old brother to their home at Twisp, in north central Washington.http://www.kimatv.com/news/local/11-year-old-girl-shoots-kills-cougar-in-Central-Washington-247339751.html So far this winter, Fish and Wildlife agents have tracked and killed five cougars for attacking domestic animals in the Twisp-Winthrop area. Five others in the Methow Valley have been killed by hunters.http://www.komonews.com/news/local/11-year-old-Central-Wash-girl-shoots-kills-cougar-247306071.html west coast cougar attacks on humans http://westernwildlife.org/cougar-outreach-project/legal-status-management/ This wild animal was half the weight it should have been. There was something seriously wrong with it. They normally avoid people. Method not withstanding it is likely best this particular animal was removed from the apparently healthy population of relatives. + If the deer and feed population is high and healthy, the prey population will be high and healthy. Increased sightings will follow increased populations . Increased sightings means increased altercations and increased stories like these. There will be more until the populations decline again as they are wont to do with the natural tides of population changes. |
