Re: Anyone try Dollar Shave Club? - Robert M - 07-02-2014 RAM, How are the Harry's razors and blades? I hear the razors are very nice and the blades produce a good, close, shave and overall cost less than the competition. But, they are still way more expensive than a basic DE setup. That and reviews say the Harry's cream isn't all that great. Robert Re: Anyone try Dollar Shave Club? - Mini 9 - 07-02-2014 My dad said the best thing about chemo in his opinion was not having to shave. Re: Anyone try Dollar Shave Club? - Mactel - 07-02-2014 I did and wasn't crazy about the blades. Re: Anyone try Dollar Shave Club? - robfilms - 07-02-2014 man. the price of gilette's mach3 blades is obscene. i'm always looking for alternatives. i had a wilkensons safety razor so bought a pack of blades. i didn't like the shave. a double blade set-up works better for me. i have also looked at harry's but haven't pulled the trigger. ymmv be well. rob Re: Anyone try Dollar Shave Club? - robfilms - 07-02-2014 Mini 9 wrote: now that is FUNNY! you dad is a special guy if he can share that kind of humor. good for you both. be well. rob Re: Anyone try Dollar Shave Club? - robfilms - 07-02-2014 Learn to Use a Safety Razor and Never Buy Overpriced Blades Again https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZDPEogOU34#t=196 Re: Anyone try Dollar Shave Club? - Dennis S - 07-02-2014 Robert M and I started using old-fashioned doube-edged blades at the same time a year and a half ago. Go to : http://badgerandblade.com/ and http://www.reddit.com/r/wicked_edge/ Get some tips there about double-edge shaving or at least how to use a brush and soap if you stick with disposable razors. You can get into it lots cheaper than the Dollar Shave Club or any other place that has a markup. And also get better equipment. A consensus on a good mail-order place is: http://www.maggardrazors.com/ There $16 razors get good reviews. I got a razor from China for $2.00 that is still working great after 18 months. Switching to a double edge has saved me lots of money, given me much better shaves, and I actually look forward to shaving instead of dreading it. Re: Anyone try Dollar Shave Club? - RAMd®d - 07-02-2014 I only *just* ordered the starter kit and some extra blades. So I have no idea. First and foremost, if I can lower the price of shaves/blade ratio, I'm happy. I get close shave with the Gillette paradigm only if every three days. But since I don't do that, I run an electric across my face after I shave. I *want* to try a DE razor as the shaves:blade price is crazy low compared to the typical printer:ink scam. The low price may be offset by my investment in styptic pencils. Hence, my testing of Harry's. Re: Anyone try Dollar Shave Club? - Zoidberg - 07-02-2014 Ditto going with Harry's. I liked the look of the razor better. I'm trying it out for a while. It's good. Not great but good thus far. Re: Anyone try Dollar Shave Club? - RAMd®d - 07-02-2014 It's good. Not great but good thus far. This is pretty much what I'm shooting for, at the moment, as good as what I get now, but a lot cheaper. If it's a significantly better shave, that's a perk. One thing recently improved my Gillette experience- something Robert posted in The Big Shaving Thread of '12. He said to rinse the razor after every stroke. I never did this. Thinking I was saving time, it was every third to fifth draw of the razor. For no particular reason (sorry, Robert) I decided to give it a try. As it made a noticeable difference. I don't know that I'll be able to get into the discipline of rotating a DE razor every stroke and flipping the blade over (after every shave?). I barely get my tires rotated! |
