I had my deck done in the spring. I went with Trex and the trex artisan railing. I am real happy with the Trex...everyone loves it that has seen it.

No wood! No! No! No! Trust me. No wood.

If I ever win the lottery (which will be hard since I don't buy tickets), all 1,000 square feet of wood decking on my place would be the first thing to go.

If the deck is near ground level, go with concrete. There are many ways to create a beautiful look.

Hmmmm... even above ground level, why not consider tile of some kind? Think outside the box? Some other non-wood approach?

I'm with Mike J. And contact the lumber yards who sell the lumber and man-made decking for their take on it. Lots of trex here in Puget Sound.

Cedar. MAke sure you use a good finish on it and it will last for years.

Trex. That stuff will last forever, plus it is a good use for recycled PolyEthylene (milk bottles primarily).
