Dust has never been an issue with this MBP and I've been inside of it at least a half dozen times. Failed thermal paste wouldn't seem to be an uncommon problem. Re: Recent MBPs and Thermal Paste - IronMac - 08-11-2014 The thing is...thermal paste loses its abilities over time and usage. I know of one gaming notebook manufacturer who invites customers back for a re-application of thermal paste for free! In my case, I use my MBP a LOT in a warm environment here in SG. If I were to replace this MBP in the future with another...what are the options for thermal paste re-application? I would hate to think that I would need to replace future MBPs every 3 yrs or so and then try to shuffle of a dying MBP on someone else. Edit...I guess one should not be buying any used MBPs in the future since there is this time bomb in all of them. Re: Recent MBPs and Thermal Paste - Racer X - 08-11-2014 drill and tap the machine for grease zerks? Re: Recent MBPs and Thermal Paste - jdc - 08-11-2014 Sorry, but it sounds like you are just guessing. Re: Recent MBPs and Thermal Paste - jdc - 08-12-2014 What does iStat say about the CPU temp? Crazy hot when? All the time? Just now? At 1 pm everyday? When you are running 4 browsers with 100 tabs? Theres just not enough info to make a diagnosis, or to even know if your "crazy hot" was just a one time thing? Re: Recent MBPs and Thermal Paste - IronMac - 08-12-2014 Ok...good questions. It's running crazy hot all the time and has been doing so for at least two to three months. Crazy hot that you can't touch it. Right now, the CPU temp according to iStat is 175 Farenheit in a room at 26 Celsius along with the MBP sitting atop a laptop cooler equipped with two fans. If I turn off the air conditioning and leave the machine as is and walk out, I expect it will hang as it has done at least three times before necessitating a shutdown and restart. Fans are running at 3635 rpm, the both of them according to iStat. It, of course, runs hotter when there are more programs open. I guess that's natural? So, what do you think the problem is? |
