Re: Guitar advice - August West - 12-20-2014 Seagull Re: Guitar advice - GuyGene - 12-20-2014 I'm also looking for a guitar, but for me. Waaaay back in Vietnam, a friend taught me a bit, and I enjoyed playing around on it. I learned a few things, so now in me geezerhood, I'm wanting to get another one. Thinking about even taking lessons. But my guitar budget is low. Re: Guitar advice - Bo - 12-20-2014 We went through a similar hunt a couple of years ago for our son, albeit at a slightly lower price point. He wound up with a Takamine G Series EG260C-BL FXC Acoustic Electric for about $400. It's still his main guitar and he loves it! Here was my original post on the topic: http://forums.macresource.com/read.php?1,1396541,1396541#msg-1396541 And the follow up: http://forums.macresource.com/read.php?1,1400063,1400063#msg-1400063 Re: Guitar advice - M>B> - 12-21-2014 We have a forum member who is a luthier... http://patfosterguitars.com/ He does nice work! Re: Guitar advice - JoeM - 12-21-2014 The January issue of Acoustic Guitar mag has a good section devoted to bargain hunting for acoustics under $600. In that issue they review the Takamine GD20-NS, street price around $250.00 and to quote them "...just might be a perfect beginners guitar..." They also review the Yamaha LS16 ARE, a concert sized guitar at $799.00 and give it high marks. As mentioned above Seagulls are an excellent choice. I remember taking a newcomer about 12 yrs ago to Rudys in NYC to buy his first acoustic guitar and I got him a Seagull for about $400. It was well make with a great sound and very playable. Re: Guitar advice - Will Collier - 12-21-2014 I tried out a couple of Seagulls recently, concur they're very good, especially for the price. I always liked Takamines as well. |
