Re: RYF - New 12" Retina MacBook 8GB/256GB $999 - OWC Jamie - 02-15-2016 I reallly don't think this was built with photoshop in mind. It's a great road warrior laptop -an early macbook air with a retina screen, less weight, a bit more battery life, great for typing up your manifestum, a little spreadsheet work, email, web browsing, maybe even try to use photos. Plus it's thin! and this is more what the price should have been to begin with. edit: I'm not quite sold on the keyboard. Re: RYF - New 12" Retina MacBook 8GB/256GB $999 - mattkime - 02-15-2016 don't get me wrong. this is the laptop i'd want when i'm at the airport. i just don't spend much time at airports. i spend most of my working time at desks. i might as well carry a slightly larger computer and have more power. ...eh, just not for me. Re: RYF - New 12" Retina MacBook 8GB/256GB $999 - Speedy - 02-15-2016 Never mind, no optical drive. Anyone who does should be buying a 13" Pro. Re: RYF - New 12" Retina MacBook 8GB/256GB $999 - RAMd®d - 02-15-2016 I haven't been following these a lot lately. But I'm not exactly sure what people are so excited about. For $99, you can get a refurb 12" MBP that has - Better processor - Better graphics - Same RAM - 128GB instead of 256GB storage - Lower res, but still retina display Wow, neither have I, apparently. Never mind, no optical drive. What is this "optical drive" of which you speak? What's not to like? Pure genius. If you need to schlep an external optical drive and a bagful of adapters, along with a very thin, very lightweight computer, then you're too stupid to buy the right machine for the right job. Geeze. I don't use Photoshop or Elements, but the MB handles Pixelmator well enough, and that works for me. It is what it is. I don't understand the desire to see it as something isn't, and then criticize it. Oh, wait... If I had known that I could have saved $150, I might have waited to get mine. But having used it for a couple of months, I'm not hurting at all. I'm really happy with it. I had to go back to my Late 2007 BMB for some stuff and it was almost painful to look at that screen. Re: RYF - New 12" Retina MacBook 8GB/256GB $999 - sekker - 02-16-2016 OOS. I am about to spend many hours on 4 plane rides. My next Apple laptop will likely be a version of this 12" MB. Why? Because it does 90% of what I need, in a far slimmer form factor than this 15" MBPR. What I don't like: 1) No standard USB port. I know I can bring an adapter, but seriously. Needs one normal USB port. 2) The battery life is not nearly as good as the 13"MBPR. I truly want more than 4-6 hours if I'm going to travel with it. Apple added a couple ports to make the MBA really useful. I'm hoping they will do the same with the MB, but I admit I may be wrong. The battery life should get better with the newer Intel chips. I'm hoping Apple has hit the super slim category by being able to be used all the time on a plane.
