Re: Black Panthers! Yesterday's best non-story - RgrF - 07-14-2016 Rick-o wrote: Completely wrong analogy. I was there and suspect you are going on hearsay. The riots of the Summer of '68 had their underpinnings with the futile war we were waging in Southeast Asia and the fundamentally unfair draft system that was in place to populate the military. Blend in political assassinations, a completely tone deaf President, one who didn't dare run for re-election and in this particular case a Chicago police department led by a big city boss mayor - both run amuck. Those circumstances had turned an entire segment of the citizenry against government and allowed that segment to hear complaints from minority communities, complaints that would have previously fallen on deaf ears - in effect an entire slice of the populace was now willing to question what they previously would never have conceived of questioning. Their government had lied to them and they were waking up to that fact. Since you're too young to have experienced it yourself, here's an actual timeline of 1968. You made a statement about similarities, now tell us - how did you arrive at that throwaway line and can you back it up with anything remotely resembling any facts that would support what you said or were you just making a weak attempt at being sensationalist? Re: Black Panthers! Yesterday's best non-story - $tevie - 07-14-2016 Uhm, I thought Rick-o was referring to effect, not cause. If there's a series of riots this summer, which I doubt, then the analogy would be fine. Store owners and home owners who lose property aren't going to be analyzing the societal and political factors that made it happen. Re: Black Panthers! It's the wrong tone. Do it again, and I'll stab you in the face with a soldering iron!" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jWsFbybkgHM Re: Black Panthers! And the arsenal of the everyday man or woman, many of whom will come locked and loaded. |
