My first thought, too. As long ago as the '70s, my dad always made a point of separating out any silver-based coinage (pre-1965, IIRC) from the coins he collected at his business. I inherited all of it upon his death in the '80s - it's packed away in a closet . I still do that! Well, not that there are many Mercury dimes in circulation any longer, but I always look at the side of quarters to see if they were made prior to 1965. My grandfather taught me well... I snagged quite a few counting down the registers at work when I was younger. |
