Also check 'Audio MIDI Setup' in Utilities.

So appreciate these ideas!

Totally had forgotten to check another user account. Got hopeful there for a second, but even logging into other accounts (both an Admin and a Guest account), the stuttering was there. Which tells me this is a deep level glitch in the update. Been looking all day for other files to delete. I think I've reached the end.

Also opened Audio Midi Setup Utility. Some interesting info in the Info preference (see attached), but nothing I could interpret.

VERY common problem with digital audio devices since the FireWire days.

It's a driver or firmware issue.

You may be able to update the firmware with the Plantronics Desktop app.

...If that doesn't work then write to them for support. They may already have a fix in the works.

Re: Audio is stuttering since upgrade - tuqqer - 02-06-2017

Update: after hearing back from Plantronics, I decided it was time to do a clean install anyway (it'd been over 3 years). Sure enough, audio problem went away. Perhaps there'd been an easier fix, but there'd been some other really odd behavior happening, so I took this as the moment to get off my butt, put aside 4 hours on a Sunday, and zero the drive and reinstall everything one thing at a time. Mac is super fast once again. Thanks again for the suggestions.
