Like so many things, this yearly expedition has become a total farce. But one with more and more disastrous consequences for many inexperienced climbers that buy their way onto the mountain. Unfortunately even some experienced climbers and sherpas are dying due too the ridiculous conditions there.

If the weather was bad for a couple of days the tours could have gotten backed up. When it cleared, they all rushed the summit at once.

No, Hal, the photo is not fake. What you see are ascenders and descenders sharing a single line.

Another climber died on Friday, bringing the two month tally to ten deaths.

Maybe I wasn't clear - at first glance, I was sure it was fake. But then I read the stories and saw all of the pictures. The ones on the Kumbu ice flow are just as amazing...

Beyond just the 8000+ meter height, I am so impressed that these climbers can keep going with all that gear they have strapped to themselves! I find my cellphone and water bottle to be burdensome hiking at 3000 meters.

I read the book "Epics of Everest" by Wibberly as a kid, and that was enough for me. The book still sticks with me.

Back in the late winter of 1980, I trekked in the area, and chose to avoid Everest Base Camp, instead climbing Kala Patthar, which is a walkable hill at the same altitude as Base Camp (about 18,500 feet) with a much nicer view. Even then the crowds were annoying. Now it's just crazy.

One thing every single highly motivated mountain climber who ever died on Everest has in common is that they got off their safe comfy couch.

So, good for them?

Another is — they're dead, Jim.

What we don't know is how many of them had no business getting off that couch and littering the mountain.
