And worldliness is anathema to the modern republican. (50 years ago, thing might have been a bit different on this score.)
People who learn the value of other human beings are pro-birth-control because they understand that women can't be on equal footing with men without control over their own reproduction.

This has been a Republican meme for ages. Curiously, the argument isn't that higher education doesn't work, but that it works too well.
