If I plug my MBP directly into my modem, I can get around 950Mbps down and a tad slower up...

I've got Northstate Fiber in NC.

I pay for 100Mbs on Spectrum, and when downloading stuff on Usenet, I frequently get about 110Mbps. Only other option here is AT&T, who won't tell me exactly what speeds they offer. They have gigabit fiber really close by (about 2 blocks away) but can't tell me if/when they plan to make it available in our neighborhood

500/500 Frontier. Had to run Ethernet from drop and that’s when I started running Ethernet.

I'm paying for 100/100 with Frontier but regularly see over 250/250 and never less than 200/200.

They keep bugging me to move up to a higher tier but are not willing to negotiate a lower price than the ludicrous( $192 all in) off-contract price that I am currently paying for my Internet and basic HD-TV package (No Premium channels).

tuqqer, do you have a monthly data cap?

I get 120 Mbps down, 12 Mbps up.

People usually only get faster than 100/100 when there is competition in the area, or there is dense enough population in a region to justify it. I am about 4000 feet from state offices, but I guess my specific neighborhood isn't dense enough for anybody besides Comcast to have upgraded to fiber (I'm looking at you Frontier and CenturyStink).
