Meh. I’m not onboard with the magic thinking that somehow gender is some silver bullet to better leadership. Women are as susceptible to the vagaries of political life and the wielding of power as men.

We’ve seen women world leaders. The usual mix of good, bad and in between.

The problem, among many others, has not been having men as leaders, it’s been ignoring half available the talent pool based on long exposed prejudices.

Women represent both the best and the worst of us. Just like men.

And yes, this time around, it’s very likely the VP spot is much more ‘President in Wating’ than understudy.

The last three Vice Presidents who were ELECTED president -

G.H.W. Bush - 1988
Richard Nixon - 1968
Martin Van Buran - 1831

Vice Presidents since Van Buran who ran and lost
John Breckenridge - 1860
John Garner - 1940
Henry Wallace - 1944
Hubert Humphery - 1968
Walter Mondale - 1984
Al Gore - 2000

the Naval Observatory is not the greatest stepping stone to the White House

I think any of the three of Amy, Elizabeth, or Kamala would make a GREAT veep and satisfy those in the party who feel that new blood / a woman in the position is needed. Hillary would be another good, though polarizing, choice... I know people hate her, but she WAS qualified for the position. Stacey Abrams would indeed make a good SCJ pick, as would Mr. Obama himself...

Biden hasn't secured anything yet.

I think everyone believes that Biden if elected, will not run a for a second term.

I personally believe the Presidency is too hard a job for anyone over 65. We see Trump stumbling around. HRC was having troubles due to exhaustion on the campaign. Biden chose to not run for a very real reason. I really feel Biden knows what he is signing up for. If elected, he will probably serve for 3 years and resign, making his VP President-Encumbent for the next election.

Having stated that, I think he won't repeat HRC's mistake.
He will choose Warren to unite the Centrist and Liberal leaning wings.

He won't repeat HRC's other mistake.
He will ask for the Killer B's (Bill, Barack, and Bernie) to be on the road with him.

And he will clean up the midwest.

I predict a Biden-Warren Landslide.

Right or wrong, the Dems need to address the race issue. It has been a simmering fact that many believe the party justs assumes it will have the African-American vote no matter what. Selecting an African-American for the ticket will help correct that belief. The same can be said of selecting a woman. Then consider Biden's age and you will want a younger Veep.

Given that, I can see Biden selecting Harris. She touches on all three areas. In comparison, Warren and Klobuchar only hits one of those areas.

Who Sanders might pick is anyone's guess. I doubt it will be anyone we could think of now.

True but none of those reasons are the reason a woman for VP is good for this election year. The VP should be more youthful and two white guys on a ticket is not as appealing to the undecided woman voter. The Year of the Woman!

I so agree with you Sam! Representation is extremely important. I think there are a number of women of color who d be great VP choices.

A name I haven't seen yet - Tammy Duckworth

She touches on a lot of desirable qualities: female, minority (Asian), disabled combat veteran, Senator from a safe state, only 52.

Eva Braun if it will move Trump out! I really hope they don't play identity politics at the risk of not removing AgentOrange.
