Re: No Djok-ing around, Novak Djokovic ejected from US Open - testcase - 09-07-2020 On the video I watched this morning (shown on NBC's Today Show) it shows Djokovic glancing over to where the lines person was. He then hit the ball exactly where she was standing. He should have been be taken into custody and walked off in handcuffs and in police custody for at least Criminally Negligent Assault. :oldfogey: Re: No Djok-ing around, Novak Djokovic ejected from US Open - Yoyodyne ArtWorks - 09-07-2020 It’s odd that he took the ball out of his pocket and then hit it, it wasn’t a split-second spontaneous motion. Re: No Djok-ing around, Novak Djokovic ejected from US Open - Robert M - 09-07-2020 Test, You and I must have seen a different video. Look at 8 and 9 seconds into the ESPN video. He wasn't glancing in the direction of the judge until a moment _after_ he hit the ball. You can tell by his actions immediately afterwards that it wasn't intentional. The commentators would've reamed him if he'd intentionally aimed in anger at the judge and the judge would've sustained a tremendous injury from getting hit by the ball. The incident was unintentional. Unfortunate but unintentional. This wasn't hit as a dead ball bouncing around that was whacked out of unaimed frustration. He took the ball out of his pocket and wanted to send a message to the line judge. This guy makes a mighty good living off his ability to control the trajectory of a ball. IMO, he meant for it to be a couple inches to the side of her throat like a shot across the bow. ![]() ![]() Re: No Djok-ing around, Novak Djokovic ejected from US Open - Yoyodyne ArtWorks - 09-07-2020 Dumb? Yes. Irresponsible? Undoubtedly. But intentional? No way. Re: No Djok-ing around, Novak Djokovic ejected from US Open - Robert M - 09-07-2020 pRICE, Point out to the seconds in the video where you can see his intent to nail the line judge. I've looked and can't find them. There are plenty of other spots he could have hit the ball in frustration. It was meant to be a shot across the bow to show his displeasure with the call. Re: No Djok-ing around, Novak Djokovic ejected from US Open - hal - 09-07-2020 Safety of officials is #1 in every rule book. Once you let something like this slide as an unintentional accident, you will have 'accidentally/on purpose' events in the future and people will have to gather to ascertain if there was motive or not live in real time. You can't have that. The rule has to be 100% solid. He intentionally hit the ball recklessly and the ball hit a judge - case closed. Re: No Djok-ing around, Novak Djokovic ejected from US Open - Robert M - 09-07-2020 pRICE, This is why I asked because you are incorrect based on the video. Look at 8 to 9 seconds into it. That's when he hits the ball and he isn't glancing at the judge. Look at his reaction afterwards. It is essentially, "Oh @#$@#" and he immediately went over. That is not the act of someone who intended to hurt someone and/or send a message to him or her. Hit the ball recklessly, it happens. Send a message to the judge and/or intentionally hurt one? No. Djokovic isn't that stupid. Robert |
